I just saw this post, as I'm a vim addict with an Apple BT keyboard,
missing my ESC key.

I tried option ++, and vi typed four or five binary characters. It's
the same ones each time, but it's not ESC.

Am I using the right version of iSSH?

Thanks

Either Option + = or Option + + should produce and ESC key press.

It's still producing some binary junk when I press option and '=', not an escape. I'm using IOS 4.2.1, and iSSH is current, according to the AppStore (no updates available).

I'm sorry, I didn't specify that am using an iPad.

The key sequence being sent is (in hex): e2 89 a0

Thanks.

I must be dense, since it's still generating those non-esc characters.
Could it have something to do with the alternate screen mode that vi
uses?

I'm in the same boat. I tend to just use option-C which send a control-
C and at least has the right effect of dropping vim back into command
mode. It's a functional work-around but my fingers still head for the
escape key!

I'm not able to replicate this. In my test cases I'm connecting with
a CentOS or a Ubuntu machine. My suspicion is that the key mapping at
some level is off. What does Option++ do at the command line? What
does the ESC key do on the keyboard accessory?

Hi, did you try Option+[  (option + left bracket).  That works on my iPad.
