Nashville Metro Public Health Department officials say an employee at a Germantown bar has been diagnosed with hepatitis A.

According to MPHD, the person works at The Back Corner.

Free hepatitis A vaccines will be offered to customers who went to The Back Corner from June 28-30.

Customers have until July 14 to be vaccinated in time to protect against the virus, according to MPHD.

The vaccine will be given out at three different MPHD centers Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Information on which centers will be distributing the vaccine can be found below:

  • Lentz Public Health Center 2500 Charlotte Ave. 37209
  • East Health Center 1015 East Trinity Lane 37206
  • Woodbine Health Center 224 Oriel Ave. 37210

According to the Centers for disease Control, Hepatitis A usually spreads when a person unknowingly ingests the virus from objects, food, or drinks contaminated by small, undetected amounts of stool from an infected person.

Hepatitis A can also spread from close personal contact with an infected person such as through sex or caring for someone who is ill.

MPHD says the best ways to prevent hepatitis A infection are to get vaccinated and to practice good handwashing with warm water and soap.
