THE IT CROWD US remake has been confirmed by writer Graham Linehan with a brand new cast taking on the hilarious Channel 4 comedy. But when will the new series be released?

Creator Linehan is partnering with US broadcaster NBC on the reimagining of the classic British series.

The Father Ted and Black Books writer confirmed the news on Twitter, posting: “Oh, yeah. Working on it. Don’t expect the same kind of show and EVERYONE WILL BE HAPPY.”

There were previous reports that the show was set for another reboot - the third attempt by NBC to make it work for American audiences.

The first US pilot hit screens in 2007 and was filmed just a year after The IT Crowd made its original debut on Channel 4.

The pilot didn’t fare well and a second attempt was made in 2014 but again it didn’t get the green light from the broadcaster.

The latest remake will see Linehan brought on board as a writer for the first time, which could be what the show’s been missing.

When will The IT Crowd US pilot air?

There’s no firm release date yet for The IT Crowd remake but it could be a soon as the end of this year in time for pilot season in the autumn.

Typically pilot season in America is in September, so The IT Crowd could be aired then.

However depending on how much time NBC and Linehan will be dedicating to this third attempt at a remake, it could take longer for the show to hit screens.

A possible 2019 airdate may also work, however it would most likely have to be during pilot season given that’s it the initial episode.

If the pilot is successful, The IT Crowd could finally get a greenlit and get ordered for a whole season of episodes.

Who will in the The IT Crowd US remake?

No casting has yet been announced but most likely American actors will be taking on the roles of the three quirky characters Roy, Moss and Jen.

In the 2006 US version of the show, Richard Ayoade reprised his role as the socially inept Moss, Jessica St. Clair played Jen and Rocky Carroll was their boss Denholm.

While the role of Roy - played by Chris O’Dowd in the British original - was portrayed by Community star Joel McHale.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the 2006 remake made it to a full season but was culled at the last minute by an NBC executive.

Will there be another season of The IT Crowd?

It looks unlikely that The IT Crowd will be returning for another season, especially if Linehan is focusing on the American remake.

Also, the central trio of Ayoade, O’Dowd and Katherine Parkinson, who played the computer illiterate IT department head Jen, have become big stars since the sitcom finished and may not have the availability now.

The IT Crowd ran for four seasons between 2006 and 2010 with a one-hour special that wrapped up the sitcom.

The British original won BAFTAs, an International Emmy and a Rose d’Or award during its run.
